Our History

 Transport for Britain was established as a limited company in 2018 by Peter Longman a successful and forward thinking entrepreneur based in Lichfield in the West Midlands.

  Transport for Britain was originally born out of opposition to HS2. Like many business leaders around the UK, Peter could not see the logic in developing a high-speed rail-link between London, Birmingham, Manchester and Leeds which had only limited connectivity for the vast majority of the UK population. He believed that for the estimated costs (originally £33bn and currently estimated to have risen to around £106bn), badly needed investment in the existing rail infrastructure and in our motorway network would bring greater benefit for all UK the population and help the country more effectively meet it’s environmental obligations. By upgrading the exiting rail lines, building new track and /or new motorways alongside existing railway lines, re-opening old lines (where there was sufficient demand), and investing in the latest electric and smart technologies, the UK’s transport infrastructure capacity could be increased sufficiently to meet the country’s needs now and in the future.

Projects

Transport for Britain has launched a number of projects and campaigns in line with it’s vision: to create a fully integrated and sustainable network of roads, railways, cycleways, pathways and waterways which meet the current and future transport needs of the UK population.

In addition to promoting changes to the HS2 route to enable high speed trains to stop at Lichfield Trent Valley station, Transport for Britain is exploring the setting up of a pilot train service between Lichfield and Alrewas / The National Memorial Arboretum. We are conducting a survey to identify whether there is sufficient passenger demand and enough people to provide either time or financial resources to help make this happen..

Our Team

 Transport for Britain depends on a dedicated number people many of whom give their time freely to support projects such as the operation of passenger services on The Arboretum line. If you are interested in getting involved we are always looking for volunteers and are particularly keen to hear from those with specialist skills. The skills and roles needed could include: website / social media management, railway experience, business development, operational services – stations / trains / ticketing.
